Synthetic wax
Synthetic Wax is a wax of synthetic and mineral origin. It fulfills several roles in cosmetic formulations: it acts as an emulsifier to stabilize mixtures, as a thickener to increase viscosity, as a binder to maintain the cohesion of ingredients, and as an abrasive for exfoliating properties. It can also contribute to the fragrance of a formulation.
Roles & functions
Perfuming — Adds a scent to the product or masks the odour of raw materials.
Emulsifying — Allows phases that do not naturally mix, such as water and oil, to be blended together.
Viscosity controlling — Increases viscosity and gives the product its texture.
Binding — Binds together the ingredients of a solid formula (powder, stick).
Abrasive — Helps remove particles through friction (polishing, scrubbing).
