PROPYLENE GLYCOL
Propylene Glycol (INCI: Propylene Glycol) is an ingredient of plant-based or synthetic origin. It fulfills several roles in cosmetic formulations: humectant that retains water, solvent that dissolves other ingredients, thickener that increases viscosity, and carrier for fragrances.
Roles & functions
Skin conditioning — Keeps the skin in good condition and protects it; improves its comfort.
Perfuming — Adds a scent to the product or masks the odour of raw materials.
Humectant — Attracts and retains water to help maintain hydration.
Viscosity controlling — Increases viscosity and gives the product its texture.
Solvent — Dissolves other ingredients to incorporate them into the formula.
