Polyvinyl acetate
Polyvinyl acetate is a synthetic polymer obtained through chemical synthesis. It fulfills several roles in cosmetic formulations: it forms a protective film on the hair, acts as an emulsifier to stabilize mixtures, provides antistatic properties, and serves as a binder to maintain product cohesion.
Roles & functions
Hair conditioning — Improves the appearance, softness and manageability of the hair.
Emulsifying — Allows phases that do not naturally mix, such as water and oil, to be blended together.
Film forming — Forms a film on the surface of the skin or hair.
Antistatic — Reduces static electricity, particularly on the hair.
Binding — Binds together the ingredients of a solid formula (powder, stick).
