PECTIN
Pectin is a polysaccharide of plant origin, extracted mainly from fruits and plant cell walls. It acts as a thickener and binder in cosmetic formulations, and can also serve as an emulsifier to stabilize mixtures of different phases.
Roles & functions
Emulsifying — Allows phases that do not naturally mix, such as water and oil, to be blended together.
Viscosity controlling — Increases viscosity and gives the product its texture.
Binding — Binds together the ingredients of a solid formula (powder, stick).
