Guar gum
Guar gum (Cyamopsis tetragonoloba gum) is an ingredient of plant origin extracted from guar seeds. It fulfills several roles in cosmetic formulations: thickening agent, emulsifier, film-forming agent, and binder.
Roles & functions
Perfuming — Adds a scent to the product or masks the odour of raw materials.
Emulsifying — Allows phases that do not naturally mix, such as water and oil, to be blended together.
Viscosity controlling — Increases viscosity and gives the product its texture.
Film forming — Forms a film on the surface of the skin or hair.
Binding — Binds together the ingredients of a solid formula (powder, stick).
