C12-16 Alcohols (INCI: C12-16 Alcohols) is a mixture of fatty alcohols of chemical synthesis composed of 12 to 16 carbon atoms. It fulfills several roles in cosmetic formulations: emollient, emulsifier, thickening agent, and antistatic agent.
Roles & functions
Skin conditioning — Keeps the skin in good condition and protects it; improves its comfort.
Emollient — Softens and smooths the skin while limiting water loss.
Hair conditioning — Improves the appearance, softness and manageability of the hair.
Perfuming — Adds a scent to the product or masks the odour of raw materials.
Emulsifying — Allows phases that do not naturally mix, such as water and oil, to be blended together.
Viscosity controlling — Increases viscosity and gives the product its texture.
Antistatic — Reduces static electricity, particularly on the hair.
